Wealth Inequality is Destroying our Democracy
Join the fight to restore fairness and equity to our tax system
Our economy and the American Dream have been decimated by trickle down economics. The working class hasn’t had a raise since the 80’s and the richest 1% of households own 30% of all household wealth1. This trend is unsustainable and as the video by Gary Stevenson below explains, the root cause of the lost American Dream and our political divide. (These videos are all 30 minutes or more in length so they will require an investment of your time.)
So what can we do? It’s time to change our tax system and stop the unsustainable accumulation (trickle up) of our nation’s wealth to a tiny fraction of our citizens. The best way to do this is to tax net worth instead of income. In other words, tax results (wealth) instead of effort (work). This would automatically lower the tax burden for those who are struggling, including the middle class, and collect a larger percentage of tax revenue from the most fortunate of us. (Click here for more information on taxing wealth.)
But if the super rich control our government how can we ever implement a policy that would threaten their wealth? Here’s another of Gary’s videos that lays out his strategy and why he thinks we can win.
The last piece of the puzzle is how to implement the plan and gain the momentum required to make such a massive change. Here’s how you can participate.
I believe that our economy and democracy can only be saved by eliminating the obscenely unequal distribution of wealth and returning control of our government to its citizens. Where votes are earned instead of bought. Join the fight. Tax Wealth, Not Work and defund the billionaires.
